➤PERPENDICULARITY: the art of hand balancing (saturday)

We will explore various approaches to hand balancing through the aspects of different movement skills (circus,
gymnastics, capoeira, contortion, yoga and contemporary dance). In many ancient cultures hand balancing
developed differently. Few examples: military training in ancient Greece; old paintings from ancient Egypt shows
dancers doing handstands; Chinese acrobatics dates back 2,500 years (Han dynasty) and is considered a national
art form; in Hindu culture, the handstand has been incorporated into the practice of yoga. It is seen as an essential
practice in many martial arts (Shaolin kung fu, Karate, Judo, Jiu jitsu...).

Workshop segments:
1. PREPARATION:
- specific hand balancing warm-up
- programming your body for hand balancing
- emphasis on forearms, shoulders, core and legs
2. POSITIONING:
- palms/shoulders/core techniques
- pointing common mistakes and removing them
3. ENTRANCE:
- with spotter
- using the wall
- dynamic entrance (wall and freestanding)
- press to handstand
- using different support points (crocodile/qdr/forearms/head)
4. HANDBALANCING IN PARTNER ACROBATICS:
- static positions in pairs/treesome
- hand balancing transitions through space in pairs
Benefits:
Handbalancing practice helps us to understand our bodies and overcome the fear of new and unknown, rooted
deep inside of our mind. It increases the shoulder joint range of motion and strenghtens the whole body (in
gymnastics, press to handstand is considered the king of skills).
Injuries, age, or other physical impairments will not limit your participation in this workshop, whose goal is to
discover the individual movement potential of each participant. Beginners as well as experienced movers, actors
and dancers, acrobats are welcome.

➤MOVING CONVERSATIONS: space / body negotiations (sunday)

The goal of the workshop is to increase awareness and ability of our performative bodies and to have a better
notion of the space around us. Workshop incorporates different non-verbal games to awaken communication
between two or more participants. Concepts of the games derives from martial arts, contact dance, theatre and
performance arts. Additionally, the work explores the spaces that we create with various positioning of the body
providing options as to how we use the flow of energy in transitioning between movement and stillness, fulness and
emptiness.
Benefits:
It includes the whole body, increeses the trust in the other, reboosts your expresive power and helps you become
more present in the moment.
Injuries, age, or other physical impairments will not limit your participation in this workshop, whose goal is to
discover the individual movement potential of each participant. Beginners as well as experienced movers, actors
and dancers, acrobats are welcome.

- pushing hands and variations
- contact improvisation: counter balance, push-pull-press-lift dynamics
- physical theatre exercises
- energy and presence in positioning of performative bodies
- exploring empty space between partners body parts and creativety it offers
- merging the elements
- cool down, Q & A

Fluid balance helps you to become more aware of your body in any situation/position and lets you feel how balance
flows dynamicaly across the axis of the body. The aim is to explore the posibilities of smooth transitions between
movement and stillness. We discover the individual movement potential of each participant. Fluid balance is
